microfilmingMicrofilming is a method of storing data onto film. It has been used for many years and has many advantages in many arenas. Some of the advantages are that you will never need software or hardware updates, all you need is a light source and magnifier to view them, they cannot be changed or tampered with and you can store many copies in multiple places.

Fields that benefit from microfilming

  1. Government agencies – Because microfilm cannot be changed or tampered with it holds up very well in a court of law. The information can also be easily and securely stored, protecting them from falling into the wrong hands.
  2. Lawyers – Microfilming is beneficial for lawyers for the same reason that it is beneficial for government agencies; it is easily protected and holds up in court.
  3. Insurance companies – Many insurance companies don’t just believe microfilming to be beneficial, they see it as a necessity due to its longevity and constancy. Microfilming is an unchanged from of information storage and as floppy disks have become archaic and iPads are the new desktop, microfilming has remained the same.
  4. Human resources – Similarly to insurance companies, human resources finds microfilm to be a constant and permanent storage solution. Similarly to lawyers and government agencies they know that microfilm holds up well in court. It is a way for them to store all of their important records in a safely, securely and easily manageable.
